Cotton

Lightweight pure cotton is the least-likely-to-fail option in children’s wear. It has many merits, including getting the balance right between stiff and soft and has the ability to dry off faster than any other textile out there.

It also has a permeable exterior, meaning air passes right through it and makes the fashion pattern it embodies breathable and cool for the wearer.

Polyester

Polyester is like cotton for winter wear. The latter’s gauze-like fabric makes it unsuitable for winter attire; polyester is thicker, has less breathability, has negligible stiffness, and folds easily.

Moreover, it does not saturate as well as cotton, so there is less water to dry off and even less so that would go right through the cloth and touch the skin. This makes it the perfect candidate for the winters.

Jersey

Cotton jersey knit has an edge over both cotton and polyester by virtue of its elasticity. Since children are growing in size almost constantly, this fabric stretches to accommodate their growth spurts.

Fleece

Children can spend an entire day rolling around on the ground, meaning their clothes require regular washing. The chief reason fleece is used instead of wool is that it can be tossed in the washer more often.

Other reasons include its moisture-wicking capability, which keeps its wearer dry no matter how much they perspire. This means fleece is also non-irritable.

Gingham

Yet another low-maintenance fabric, gingham, is soft and does not lose its integrity despite multiple washes. Available in many professional patterns, it is used to make both shirts and skirts.

The only slight caution to take with this fabric is that it has to be pre-shrunk because the before and after sizes are vastly different from each other.
